a guy named daniel

>> Saturday, December 26, 2009

a guy named daniel must be in denial. hah! no lah, just joking. just said it cause i thought it rhymes.. haha.. (imagine diana danielle in denial.. it would be a cool headline right? hehe )

i hate this feeling.
the in-denial feeling.
everything that i deny, is actually the act of being in denial.

the power of the mind is powerful (i unintentionally tried this, and it amazingly works.. like The Secret).

now im scared of thinking about anything. that's why i have this denial dilemma thingy going on.

Salam Eid Ul Adha

>> Saturday, November 28, 2009

I have been pretty occupied with a lot of stuff this whole month. I didn't have the time nor the passion to write as much as I used to..

Anyways, hope this phase will end. I really hate the fact that I lost the passion to write. Maybe the next entry will be a good one.. Hopefully.. Possibly.. Maybe..

Salam Eid Ul Adha to all Muslims all over the world.

I have an announcement...

This is my 500th post! woohoo! Thank you thank you.. (angkat tangan to the crowd)..

Yes, if only I could devote my time to really writing something, say, a novel, perhaps I could publish one already (if its worthy enough to be published)..

I want to make this special. I want to make my 500th post something that is very 500-y. ok.. nothing 500-y comes to mind.

Its a warm sunday afternoon and I just finished my zohor prayers. Its somesort of a lazy sunday. I woke up significantly late and did all the things I had to do. Yesterday Ikhwan shared with me how he cleaned up his house (kudos bb!) and it triggered me to do the same. I rearranged the furnitures in my room and it looks abit spacious now compared to before.

Other updates, starting this month, I am seriously serious about being more serious. I just realized that I am in my LATE 20s.. (gasps) oh dear. But why dont I feel so? apa masalahnya ? I guess its good to feel young and vibrant (ok, you can puke now) since most of the time, I am surrounded with young and vibrant people (my students). sometimes the guess the lecturer's age game would be playing in their minds and the numbers that they come up with could be flattering. of course some knows my real age lah.

I used to start my mornings with '$h!t Im late.. again!' Now I am abit more relaxed and organized. It was my new year's resolution.... back in 2004. haha.

Its good that time is flying fast. Its already november and the year it about to end. Time flies fast when you have a lot of things to do. Especially if you have to travel almost 70 kms for almost 2 hours to get to work in a ghetto area, it can be tiring. But fulfilling and rewarding.

I spend my weekends with my husband (im not used to referring him as hubby.. i dont know why) online, time for myself and for my family and friends. Recharge my batteries as I need to use maximum and optimum energy for work and study.

Today my facebook status reads 'late 20s huh?'

Really... seriously ?

I am thankful to be alive, happy and healthy and I do feel young and vibrant :)
alhamdulillah

a weblog is like a place for you to pour your heart out about something that means something to you and perhaps nothing to some other people. there are times that you might blog about nothing but its something to others. on some occasion, the something to you could be nothing to some but everything to some others. other times, it's just like another medium to convey subliminal message to people who might read it.

the main thing is, we blog because we want to blog. for us to read, for others to read and digest. for us to remember things that we might forget later on and for many reasons.

for me, this one small person will blog when she feels like it. and now, i just dont feel like it (ironically, i am doing it right now). perhaps bcoz i am starting to get busy with work. or i want to make myself busy with work. i choose this.

and life is all about choices. and i choose this. this is my choice. and i am living it. yes, sometimes i might stop and think and wonder about things, or ask questions but i do not regret any single bit of it. ich bereue nichts. nichts davon.

so now, i chose this. stop.

kerja HR

>> Wednesday, August 05, 2009

I was in Shah Alam on Friday. I had to jaga a booth for the ICE Exhibition. Since the HR people weren't around (actually exhibition ni utk nak recruit people, so HR yang patut ada), I took over, asking questions, checking CVs.. takpe la.. something i'm quite familiar with when I was in HR last time.

A girl who looked very familiar came with his brother. Muka dia penuh dengan harapan and she filled up the form and asking me questions sambil borak2. All the while I was thinking, 'mana laa penah nampak dia? she looks soo familiar..'

girl : Dah lama ke dengan uni---? (notice that she didn't use any kata ganti nama)
me : yeah, tomorrow dah 2 tahun la kire nye :)
girl : wow.. lame gak ye.. lepas grad terus keje sini ke?
me : bole dikatakan la.. about one month after that, dpt keje sini.. rezeki..
girl : (smiling) oo ok.. sini nak jadi lecturer kena ada masters ke ?
me : yeah
girl : that means u dah ada masters ?
me : (angguk)
girl : oo ok.. lps degree u terus sambung ke?
me : (banyak pulak tanya minah ni) tak, after degree i worked for 2 years after that baru i smbung blajar. this is my 3rd job.
girl : (pandang atas, mcm tgh kire kire tp masih muka confused) ooo ok.. omg, mudanya dah ada masters.. bestnyer.. mcm i ni dah tua tua baru la nak smbung belajar.. hehehe
me : (smiling)
girl : r u married?
me : yeah last month (showing the ring and the inai)
girl : ye ke.. congratss... muda muda lagi dah kawin... (smiling)
me : (confused. how old does she think i am??) thanks :)

after she finished filling up the forms and submitting her CV, I saw the year she was born. 1983.
still confused. not complaining though :) i kinda like it.

my dear husband once said to me while we were walking to Netto, a grocery store nearby. we always kid around and make silly (sometimes lame) jokes on the way.
'kalau orang sini tgk u, mesti dia igt u budak kecik kan? mesti dia tak sangka u dah tua sbnrnya. hehehe :p'

ha'ah la b :)

i miss. i miss. i miss him. a lot.

sushi zombie

Morgen

I had very little sleep last night. I think about 3 hours.. Perhaps I was very full from the sushi we ate for dinner last night. Ikhwan and I had dinner with one of his colleagues from ABB. He's at early 30s and has a PhD in robotics or something related to it, I'm not quite sure.. His wife is a Chinese. A very nice couple. They love to travel. Something that we too like to do.. perhaps one day we will get that chance again.. to travel together..

I am in the midst of packing my bags which I am sooo dreading to do now. Burning all the TV shows he downloaded for me and trying not to think about the long distance deal cause it's really hard for me to handle.. I am not sure if I can answer properly when people asks, 'so macam mane? bole ke jejauh?' gosh, they have no idea..

Ok ok , trying not to think to much about it.. I'm going to the city to meet ikhwan later around lunch time. I am planning to give him a surprise, I hope I manage to get it. It's funny how I tried to ask him where to get him the thing that I wanna get him, without telling him what it is.. And living in a foreign land with a foreign language doesnt make it easier.. But now I feel the urge to study German and be really good at it.. ok, so maybe I will just try to be ok at it first since it's not like BM.. an interesting language..

I am hoping that time will move faster when I am in KL. Yes, I will spend more time with my beloved family. Telling them stories about my experience here and with the Ramadhan month coming up, hopefully I will be calmer and try not to think too much.. Hopefully my prayers will be answered.. Hopefully everything will work out for us.. insha allah..

ok this is actually just some random post at 7am.. I just felt like blurting out random things and just..... I dunno.. I am a zombie now..

my wet wednesday

it was a wet wednesday morning. i woke up the usual 530 and it was pouring rain. i pulled my comfortable comforter but my phone kept on playing Smallville's Somebody Save Me song. (my alarm clock)

however, for some reason, i love wednesdays. the day is less stressful and it's the middle of the week. i was ready to see the Dean today. i've been collecting all my confidence and guts since monday. so as i reached my office room (which looks neater now since i've been marking papers like mad, i am half way through), switched on the aircond and PC, put on some make up and marched to his office.

Dean's PA : dekan tak sampai lagi, kenapa Dora?
me : "eheh.. takpe la Kak.. kejap lagi saya datang"

Sigh. Oh well.

The day was very productive though (since the internet was down at the office). I finished checking the first test of one group and they did quite well. I am happy and satisfied with their performance. One student scored full mark! When I handed to him his paper, he looked so happy and everybody cheered for him. To see my student being happy for his achievement, for me, the feeling is simply remarkable. They've worked hard for it and I always like to put comments like "Excellent!" or "Good!" or "keep it up!". Some also get comments like "SEE ME!" or "REDO YOUR WORK!". hehe..

After class, some students consulted with me on SPSS programming for their Thesis and half way through I realized my tone of voice was actually very loud.

me : lepas you buat factor analysis, you dah reducekan dia punya....(tunggu student sambungkan ayat, it's a teacher/lecturer thing).......
student : (sambungkan ayat) items..
me : yes, items.. paham dah ? (pause) kuat sangat ke suara saya? sorry la, lupa nak adjust volume, saya baru lepas lecture tadi
student : ehehehe eh takpe takpe.. kuat pun kuat la.. asalkan kami paham miss :)

Later on, I managed to catch my dean and finally got the chance to talk to him.

Dean : ye Dora. you nak jumpa i ye? Macam serius je..
me : sebenarnya Dr................

Alhamdulillah it went well. And I am happy :)

my time alone in Kuala Lumpur

>> Saturday, March 14, 2009

I was really hyped up about going to Kuala Lumpur (KL) today. For someone who works in a ghetto place, going to the city for the weekend is like a big deal (even when I live in PJ). There were some change of plans so I decided to go alone. I could use this time to think and reflect (again) and perhaps enjoy the city alone. Usually I would prefer driving cause it's less hassle, takde tolak tolak, I feel safer, senang nak park. I don't mind paying for parking fee and fuel for a little bit of comfort and it's easier if it rains. However, semenjak $ banyak disalurkan kepada perkara2 lain, and since I was going there alone, I hit the city using public transport. I wore like a schoolkid / uni student, took my small backpack, wore comfy sneakers and brough my DSLR in a small bag.

Yes. Public transport. I haven't used that for quite some time. A year, maybe? My brother dropped me Taman Bahagia LRT and I went straight to Masjid Jamek. Travelling was easier since I reloaded my Touch & Go. The city looked pretty much the same. Dusty and jammed and everyone seems to be heading to the same place as I was. PWTC.

See, there's a travel fair going on and people are just flocking in to PWTC. Macam nak kejar apa je. Takut tiket habis kot ? For me, I had a very specific objective, so I went straight to the appropriate place. MAS. I wasn't looking for some holiday package. I was looking for a ticket. A return ticket. And when I saw the destination and the price, I smiled and actually jumped a little. Murah bangat! Anxiously, I qued while biting my fingernails waiting for my turn.

Cust Serv : Yes Miss how may I help you?
Me : Hi. Can I know the exact price for flight to ________ on ________ ?"
Cust Serv : (Looking into computer clicking here and there) Ok... travelling alone or 2 people?
Me : Alone
Cust Serv : Ok.. For flight to _____ return it's RM ****, all inclusive. You have 30 days from departure date to return to KL.
Me : Oook.. Do I book first now? Are there any booking charges?
Cust Serv : Sorry, you have to pay and I give you the tickets right away.
Me : (gulp) Oo.. but I'm not sure of the return date yet.. Can I change the return dates?
Cust Serv : So sorry.. once you've purchase the tickets, no changes can be made..

Alamak. Susah la pulak. Even though murah GEGILE but.. alot of factors I need to consider first and I need to talk to someone first. I didn't buy the tickets today. I still needed more time. However, I purchased a headphone for my mp3 player instead since there was a Digital Fair too. Singgah juga Canon nye kedai but no wide eye lenses around for sale, just body + kit set jer.

Buntu la jugak for awhile. I searched for Lufthansa but no other airlines were there. Just MAS. I walked back to LRT Star and sat for awhile. 3 trains passed. I still couldn't decide on what to do next. I took the 4th train and headed to Pavillion. I changed to Monorail at Titiwangsa where I got a nice seat before the monorail was sandwiched with many many kiasu people. AAh! I exhaled when I reached Bukit Bintang.

Yup. I looked at Menara Genesis. It was the building where I used to drag my feet to go to work. For me, the sounds of techno music with Chinese salesman/salesgirl with blonde-rebonded hairdo and long fingernails is Bukit Bintang's true identity. Not to forget the salesperson who sells moving toys at RM 10 in front of Maybank. Youngsters (sadly Malays) who hangout in groups are completely oblivious at the fact that precious time is lost just by enduring this lepaking culture.

Like a schoolgirl who just entered the city, I innocently walked towards Pavillion. This would be my second time visiting this gah place. Watching yuppies with their cup of coffees discussing projects and clicking at their PDAs reminded me of the lifestyle I had before becoming an academician. (only, i didn't have PDA, just.. had a lot of coffee and no projects :p still drink coffee now too though). Comparing this scenario with the lifestyle I am leading now is like two different universe.

Finally I reached my destination. I stood still and looked up as everyone was walking. Wow. So this is PAVILLION. but.. It looked just like any other shopping mall to me. Except the COACH store by the side, which you rarely see in KL. But one thing you see a lot in KL is that the youngsters, specifically, mat rempit kinda or gothic chic kinda, they like to hang outside of the mall. I felt a big difference when being outside of the mall and inside. There was a whole different crowd inside. How freaky!

Pavillion reminded me a lot like Singapore. As usual, I took my time looking at the Directory (its a thing that MSO and I do when we are at shopping malls), at that time, I missed him. A lot. I acted cool since I had my mp3 player on. I was bopping my head a little (padahal lagu slow masa tu) cause I didn't wanna look like I was really lost and scared. I didn't know where to go really. But I was hungry. Nando's. Okla, so I had my lunch there. Alone. Yes, I was there alone. I took my time eating my Mild Peri - Peri with Garlic sauce. I didn't wanna look like a complete loser so I took out my planner and started to scribble notes while eating (yes, it did feel like a yuppie at that time). I took out my phone and started SMSing and calling people. I really did look busy when in actual fact, I felt lonely in a middle of a busy city. How is that possible?

Lunch was done. As a normal teenage girl (ewah) , shopping was next in the list. I remembered Tangs had a MEGA sale so I headed there. Malangnya, takde ape sangat. The shopping vibe in Tangs, Pavillion was not like the shopping vibe I had in Singapore. I walked around here and there. Stopped by at Crabtree, Braun Buffel, G2000, Soda, Parkson, Sembonia, Charles and Keith and a few others I can't remember. I decided to buy a pair of Soda Jeans and Soda Blouse to go with it. And I bought a pair of Sembonia shoes (FINALLY!). To kill time waiting for the rain to stop I bought some stuff in Parkson.

It was almost 6. I walked out of Pavillion. I walked by at Lot 10 and of course stopped by for an Iced Blended Chocolate at San Francisco. This place is a very meaningful place for me. It's where MSO and I had met for the first time after 7 years. Everytime I'm at Lot10, pasti akan ke San Fran :) It's like my thing :)

Mama called cause she was worried. Apa la jadi kat anak aku sorang2 jalan di KL.. "Kol berapa nak balik ni ? Dah kol 6.. "... "ok ma, dah on the way ni" (pdhal singgah Lot10 dulu on the way tuh).. hehe. I was too tired to shop. After looking at some shirts, I headed to the train station. Seperti gadis kampung, saya terkejut dan takut melihat begitu ramai orang (esp mat rempit) at Bukit Bintang. I wanted to go home so badly cause it was just too scary. I was holding a lot of things but lucky for me, I got a seat. I reached KL sentral. I bought 2 pair of hijabs (like the one I mentioned before) for RM 30. A fair deal.

Lastly, I waited for the LRT train. I headed to Taman Bahagia again. Finally reached home safely at 730.. that's how I spent my time alone in the busy city, kuala Lumpur... very much different from kuala selangor, kan ..?

Bunyi macam tak pernah gi KL kan ? hehehe.. Lamenya x gi kl...

** post ini akan diedit lagi ye. Nanti nak bubuh some pictures I snapped.

my afternoon nap

>> Monday, March 09, 2009

I am not much of an afternoon napper. In a year, I take my afternoon naps like.. less than 5 times (I think). But on Saturday I had a 2 hour nap and again, today, 1.5 hour nap. I guess nak cover the whole week punya stress (meeting, MQA, meeting and MQA, gossip girl, house, coach carter) I came to realize why people love to take their afternoon naps. Especially when it's raining outside and you have your comfortable bed and comforter. Just lay down and Zzzz...

The long weekend is over now. Just like that. Time flies.

Salam MaulidurRasul.

my reason for being TOTALLY not myself at this moment

>> Thursday, February 19, 2009

MONDAY :: *MC [class canceled]

TUESDAY ::*MC [class canceled]

WEDNESDAY
:: Morning - Briefing for 2 hours [class canceled, tapi buat quiz 45 minutes]
:: Afternoon - Briefing for 1 hour [class canceled, tapi buat quiz 45 minutes]

THURSDAY
:: Morning - Class ok, alhamdulillah. harini students baik2
:: Afternoon - Class NOT OK. Cikgu kecik hati pada student lagi :(

FRIDAY :: *MEETING dan MEETING lagi (in Shah Alam). Suddenly Shah Alam is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Btg Berjuntai.
Reason : HOUSE, MQA, HOUSE & MQA, people and JUST HOUSE.

At this moment, I am serabut (meja office), kusut (rambut), kelam kabut (if you can see me, you'd know how). I'm trying so hard not to lose my patience, my mind, my cool and (meminjam ayat cikyah sebentar) my mojo. I talked to my ex-boss and she believes that I can pull everything off (somehow it's comforting to know that), "you kan memang selalu macam tu .. bising tu kejap jer.. lepas tu u mesti cakap.. lek lek.. I can do this.. at last ok nyer.. " kata - katanya itu selalu membuatku tersenyum... she still remembers how i used to say it with the hand gestures and all "lek lek.. don't worry.. no problem". Yup, that was me then kot. sekarang kan dah garang.. hehe..

Early of this year, I mentioned in one of my posts. So little time, so many things to do.. I wish I hadn't said that.. cause it's becoming to materialize.....

Ya, Allah.. I need time.. Give me abit more time...

FRIDAY NIGHT ESOK ::
Agenda : Laze around on my hard earned queen sized bed either finishing off Alek Wek autobiography or watch Weeds till Saturday morning.
Reason : Cause this time, I deserve it.. yeah!
(wah, what a productive week)
Soon, this will be over..

Note : House disini bukanlah bermaksud rumah.. of course, rumahku syurgaku.. House di sini merujuk kepada cerita House MD

my night cruise

>> Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Almost everyday now, after coming back from work and having my bath, I would take one of my twin nephews for a little night cruise, either Fahim or Farhan depending on who's turn to stay in PJ (they're twins and take turns staying with their Opah i.e my mom, every week).

Today I took Farhan. I love the feeling of being fresh after a good mandi manda and driving at night (around 810am) when the roads are less jammed and people are not so kiasu to reach their destinations. I tuned to mixfm cause I like to listen to it at night, their songs are mostly from the 80s or at least soothing to hear. So while passing through Taman Bahagia and almost reaching the junction to my house, Roshan (my favourite DJ in mixfm) played this song by Lenka, an Aussie singer, which happens to be Ugly Betty's promo song. And I thought, hmm.. this is nice.. So I took a turn to another junction so that I can drive a little bit more and listen to the song till it finishes. Farhan, being a smart 2 year old looked puzzled at the fact that I didn't turn into the junction at our house. And when he looked at me turning the volume up, he sorta understood why I didn't that and did the cutest laugh.. hehe..

P/S: I'm soo looking forward to watching Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives tonite on 8tv. Mujurlah ada 8tv di dalam bilikku~

my friday night : nasi kandar pelita bangsar

>> Friday, January 23, 2009

I told Mega this evening, "I tak nak keluar la malam ni. Tonight I wanna stay at home and just watch TV". I have been wanting to catch Alexander Bukan Zulkarnain on Astro OASIS. But my plans changed when I received an SMS from Adina at 8.07 pm when I was in my PJs on my bed;

"Bz? Aku nk kuar minum ngan azra. Jom?"

And just like that I changed to my jeans and wore like a 19 year old (I like wearing like teens nowadays), with my sling bag and black veil yang tak perlu digosok and went out.

This time we went out of KJ area and hit the city, Bangsar's Nasi Kandar Pelita. While waiting for Azra I shared with Adina what's been up with my life and she updated me with hers. It's been awhile since we hung out for drinks. Azra arrived the same time as our cheese naan did.

As usual, we talked about stuff and laughed like mad as though nobody's watching (feels good to be able to do that). I realize this time our talks have more substance and perhaps.. this may sound scary.. but i felt like 19 and 2+ at the same time.. we covered almost everything.. politics, economy, social, movies, traffic jams, policeman, internet, health, school days, university days, gossips, nescafe, type of coffee, babies, cars, motorcycles, storm rides, filing system, compatibility, fraud cases, travelling, age, aging, birthdays, work, engagements, marriage, divorce, religion, life, death, life after death, objectives in life, what we want in life, the best way to live life.. and what's interesting is that deep down inside our crazy little minds, we do know the best way to live life..

And after sharing with Din my orchestral event, I had one of those crystalizing moments and it all became clearer to me.. As I sat there, sturring my cup of warm teh-o-panas-kurang-manis, the words coming out of Din's and Azra's mouth were actually written for me to be heard at that exact time and at that exact moment and it's somehow Allah's way of reminding me those facts that we all know so well about but perhaps the substance has lived inside of us for so long that we might take it for granted.

Maybe, just maybe, inside our 2+ year old body and 19 year old minds, we have grown wiser than we may think.. The best part is, we still get to laugh at mamak stalls like nobody's business..

Another episode of Alexander Bukan Zulkarnain missed.. If this continues, I may need a new label call "friday nights" or "mamaks". wat say u people?

my friday night : syed

>> Sunday, January 18, 2009

I make it a point to hang out for drinks on Friday nights at least once a month, if possible with friends around PJ area. Since there have been emails on OTWC not being halal and with the Israelis inhuman acts towards our fellow Muslims, I decided to go to Syed instead.

Mich : Ko nak gi mane?
Do : Stabak dah xleh dah, old town pun xhalal. Gi Syed je la
Mich : Orait.
Do : Jap, Syed mane ni?
Mich : Syed KJ.
Do : KJ ada bnyk Syed la wei.. Syed Bistro, Syed SS5, Syed SS6, Syed tepi Giant..
Mich : Syed yg tepi Giant tu..
Do : Ada 2 Syed tepi Giant
Mich : Alamak.. Syed biasa lah..
Do : Oo.. Syed tepi Giant la
Mich : (muka tensyen)
Do : Hahaha

It has been awhile since I met my friend, Mich. We go way back in 2000 when she saw me holding a Butterfingers folder and I saw her wearing Butterfingers T-shirt. We talked alot about life, then and now and the future.

Mich will be tieing the knot in April and was expressing to me her feelings about it.

Mich : Takut hok.. Rase macam nak masuk asrama.. Masuk asrama baru. Kena beli baldi baru sume.. Nak kena kenal orang tu lagi.. Share share barang

And she did this act that made me laugh hysterically tanpa segan silu (the usual)

Mich : (hulur tangan kanan nak salam)
Hi, saya Mich. Awak Nerol ke? Room mate baru saya?
Em, awak tidur belah kiri ye. Saya belah kanan.
Tuala gantung kat mana?
